Friday night’s div2 game between leaders Nene Valley and second place East Cambs saw both
teams struggle to hit their outside shots early
on. Nene won the first 14-6 and the second
13-11 to take a 27-17 lead at the break.
Nene began to pull away, winning the third
13-6 before a 32-11 fourth and a 72-34 win.
Sunday’s div2 game saw Peterborough Ronins
play Spalding Storm and after a 16-19 first
and 10-10 second it was close at the break.
Storm won the third 2-10 to lead by 11
heading to the fourth but an 11-0 run by
Ronins tied the game with two minutes to play.
Storm eventually found the net to win 39-43.
The win moves Spalding up to second place
and they play Nene Valley next week.
In div1, the clash between Nene Valley and
Ouse Valley produced probably the best
match up of the season so far.
Nene won the first 18-12 and the second
19-15 to hold a 10 point lead at the break
but it was always close and Vipers hit back,
taking the third 15-18 to trail 52-45 and set
up a thrilling fourth.
Two early Vipers baskets reduced the lead
to 4 points but Nene responded with a 9-0
run to regain control. Vipers came again with
a 0-9 run of their own to bring it back to 4.
A 3 from Nene and 1 from the line in the last
minute was enough to take the game 67-59.
but it was a cracking game and could have
gone either way.
